A briefing for the prime minister on affordability

On Nov. 24, 2023, the prime minister received a briefing on “affordability,” which reviewed how ordinary Canadians are coping with recent economic headwinds.

The main presentation was by Sean Mullin, a special advisor on economic affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister.

Under the Access to Information Act (ATIA), I recently obtained 27 pages of material from the presentation, including a deck and a supporting document on efforts to improve the affordability of groceries. Key elements were blacked out, most of them under the Act’s exemptions for ‘advice.’

I posted one page of this material on X (formerly Twitter), which quickly received almost 30,000 hits. There were requests to post the entire document, which I am doing here as a PDF.

For reference purposes, my ATIA request number was A-2023-00821.
